How to Teach Your Kids

One thing that a parent fears the most is not being able to teach their children how to talk or how to walk but everyday as you become more and more a confidant parent your teaching ability becomes more apparent. One of the hardest things as a parent is to teach your kids discipline.

When you see them walking on the back of the couch as a 3 year old how do you teach them no. Some parents yell and scream but that has little or no effect, the only thing it may do is scare the child and he will fall which is what you don’t want. So you can approach this in different ways, experts suggest picking up the child and sternly tell them no and explain why they can’t do that.

Kids, depending on the age may listen and others may not. In the case of the non listeners , experts say it is ok to give the child a time out. If the child is in a crib then you can place them in the crib and shut the door.

Other parents have a designated place where the child will go for the famous Time Out. The idea is to place the child in a chair or in a corner and have them sit there for 5 minutes. Again, depending on the age of the child this may work but with a 2 year old it may not.

The key to discipline is patience. Once your kids see defeat in your eyes they know they have won. So you have to be diligent and patient. Other parents let their kids do what they want at a young age and explain it away as they are only 2 or they don’t know any better. That is part of the point of discipline, to teach the kids to know better. You know the old saying At first you don’t succeed try and try again.
